Get Ready With Kahh Spence To Celebrate One Year Of Samir Grey

One year ago, Kahh Spence pivoted from hairstyling celebrities, like Kelly Rowland and Cardi B, to building his fragrance and personal care brand, Samir Grey, from the ground up. Now, he’s celebrating the very first anniversary of his award-winning brand and inaugural fragrance, One Perfume, with a dinner as intimate as the delicious odeur itself.

Ahead of the celebration, “I’m excited to be surrounded by friends, family, and the Samir Grey community,” Spence tells ESSENCE. With his brand founded in honor of the women who raised him, “we’ve spent so much time cultivating these relationships,” he says, with his guest list including Michael Rainey Jr. and Dascha Polano, among others. “Celebrating this milestone together feels incredibly special.”

As he gets ready for the anniversary dinner, his dressing room is where he spends time getting grounded. “I’m either getting ready in complete silence or listening to ‘Classic’ by Drake with my eyes closed,” he says. “It’s my time to decompress and be still.” For Spence, half of getting ready is being centered in the right mental space. “I want to be fully present, so I need that deep breath beforehand,” he says, a daily ritual for the “introverted extrovert.”

He takes a similar approach with his style. Remaining simple, present, and understated, “tonight’s look was inspired by the moment: Classic and refined,” he says. Pulling clothes from his personal wardrobe, his closet is full of timeless pieces.

For the dinner, he landed on a Vivienne Westwood top and cummerbund with Daniel Fletcher tuxedo trousers and Prada derbies. “It’s clean, comfortable, and perfect for the occasion,” he says, matching his black and white look with gold and silver Alexis Bittar jewelry.

His makeup artist and groomer Lauren Wolborsky followed a similar method for his beauty. His brows and mustache were full, yet shaped with precise angulation; His skin was radiant with a lightweight tint; and, lips were moisturized with a clear sheen. Meanwhile, his nails had the same “no-makeup makeup” look, opting for a natural-colored non-cure with a simple square shape.

But, the most important step of his getting ready process was, of course, what he smelled like. With a few spritz of his very personal fragrance, One Perfume, Spence exuded a creamy silage of candied peach, warm amber, and comforting vanilla. Along with the fragrance’s aroma, “God keeps me grounded and confident,” he says. “I’m immensely grateful for the opportunity to do what I love and build something so meaningful.”

Now, with one full year of Samir Grey under his belt, what’s next for Spence is to continue to expand his reach. “I’m excited to keep building, growing, and learning how to be better than I was yesterday—and, of course, preparing for what’s next with Samir Grey,” he says with a wink.
