WATCH: Tommy Davidson Is Back In ‘The Varnell Hill Show’ Trailer

Varnell Hill is returning to television nearly 30 years after Tommy Davidson first played the character on Martin. The Varnell Hill Show premieres Tuesday, September 1, on Paramount+, bringing Davidson back together with Martin Lawrence and Bentley Kyle Evans for a new eight-episode comedy.

The series follows Varnell behind the scenes of the late-night program he has hosted for years. As television changes around him, he faces pressure to keep his show current while remaining certain of his own star power. Much of the comedy comes from what happens off-camera as Varnell deals with network executives, his writing staff and the people responsible for keeping the production running.

Davidson leads a cast featuring Kym Whitley, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Nick Cafero, Emmanuel Hudson and Chris Williams. Lawrence will also appear, with Ms. Pat, Deon Cole, Damon Wayans, Mike Epps and Omarion among the guest stars slated for the season.

Produced in association with BET Studios, The Varnell Hill Show counts Lawrence and Davidson among its executive producers. Jesse Collins and Dionne Harmon executive produce for Jesse Collins Entertainment, with Stacy Lyles and Rae Proctor also serving as executive producers. Robert Lawrence represents Runteldat Entertainment, while Mark Greenberg and Andrew Horne are executive producers alongside Evans for Harvest Studios. Evans serves as showrunner and also writes and directs the series.
